International Schools on the French Riviera: Schools and Locations

Planning to buy a home on the French Riviera with children? Their schooling can help shape your choice of area. Schools in Mougins, Valbonne, Nice and Monaco offer different educational pathways, and their locations need to fit your family’s daily routine.

Study space and school belongings

At DAMA, we have advised international families on schools to consider and areas in which to look for a home. We bring those educational needs together with the property brief: budget, type of home, family arrangements and travel.

Here is a selection of schools to explore, alongside areas we can consider with you for your purchase.

1. Start with your children’s needs

Before shortlisting schools, consider each child’s age, languages, current curriculum and intended starting date. For a teenager, discuss continuity of study and examination pathways with the school. For siblings, establish whether they could attend the same campus.

A French–English bilingual school, a British curriculum and an International Baccalaureate (IB) programme serve different educational plans. Ask each school how your child could join the relevant year group and what language support would be available.

These initial conversations help define a school shortlist that you can then consider alongside your housing options.

2. Which international and bilingual schools should you consider?

The table below offers a starting point for your enquiries. Links lead to the schools’ own information or official education sources.

At CIV, the lycée’s international sections follow the French pathway leading to the Baccalauréat Français International (BFI). This is a different qualification from the IB Diploma. Application requirements are published by the Académie de Nice, and the distinction between the qualifications is explained by the French Ministry of Education.

In Nice, ABC’s two addresses matter when assessing a home: the relevant location depends on your child’s school stage. ISM’s current campus is at 43 avenue Princesse Grace, Monaco. ISM’s official contact details.

The areas below reflect options we consider with the families we advise. The search is then refined at neighbourhood, street and property level, with the chosen school in mind.

Mougins and Valbonne: Mougins, Biot, Valbonne and Roquefort-les-Pins

For schooling in Mougins or the Valbonne/Sophia Antipolis area, we can explore Mougins, Biot, Valbonne and Roquefort-les-Pins.

We assess these options against your property requirements: a house or apartment, outdoor space, access to activities and parents’ travel needs. If several schools remain on your shortlist, comparing journeys from shortlisted homes can help refine the search area.

International School of Nice: Fabron and the hills of Nice

For families considering ISN, Fabron and the hills of Nice are among the areas we can suggest.

We look at access from each property alongside the family’s other journeys. The hills cover varied locations, so the exact address and routes are part of assessing the daily routine.

ABC in Nice: the Port, central Nice and Mont Boron

For ABC, we can explore the Port, central Nice and Mont Boron. Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Èze may also form part of the search, depending on how you want to live.

The distinction between boulevard Carnot and rue Gioffredo is essential when comparing locations. If your children attend primary and secondary school, consider how both drop-offs and collections would work.

International School of Monaco: Monaco and surrounding towns

For families considering ISM, options include Monaco, Cap-d’Ail, Beausoleil, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and La Turbie, as well as Èze, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Beaulieu-sur-Mer.

We refine those possibilities according to your housing requirements and family commitments. Consider the school journey, workplace and children’s activities together when assessing whether a location suits you.

4. Check the daily routine before choosing a property

Before committing to a home, try the school journey at the times you would actually travel. Look at the campus entrance, drop-off arrangements and the return journey after activities.

If you plan to use school transport, ask the school about stops, timetables and service arrangements for the proposed address. This lets you compare options using a specific journey.

Think about life after school too: activities, appointments, shopping and other children’s journeys. These details can help you choose between two homes that otherwise meet your property requirements equally well.

5. Prepare school applications and your property search with DAMA

Contact schools early to discuss the intended year group, admission requirements, documents and any assessments, as well as availability for your proposed start date. For a private school, also request details of fees, services and transport you would use.

If your property decision depends on a particular school, obtain a response from its admissions team about your child’s circumstances before deciding to buy.

At DAMA, we incorporate this information into your search. We discuss your lifestyle, schooling needs, budget and housing requirements, then advise on areas and properties to consider. Conversations with the schools allow your family to confirm its educational plans in parallel.
